The total raised by the new member committee was $6252.11, a combination of leftovers from last year, a grant, $500 in club budget and a fund raiser. We worked together with the Sunrise Rotary club to raise over $11,000 for the Silver Park Bench Project. A check was awarded to Jennifer Anthony at the noon meeting. To see more pictures go to the photo section on the home page.

For the next several weeks there will be gift tags for kids on the table as you enter the lunch meeting. Take a tag or two and purchase a gift for kids in need. Cash donations are also welcome. Bring back your UNWRAPPED gift by December 17th to the club so we can distribute them to the Watson Children's Shelter and Missoula Youth Homes. Thanks to all the Rotarians who share in helping those children who have so little in life to look forward to and who appreciate your gifts. For more information about how else you can help the two non-profit programs, contact Fran Albrecht or Geoff Birnbaum.

As you know attendance is important to being a good rotarian. However, we all have busy lives and schedules and there are times we have to miss a lunch meeting. Rotary has made it easy for you to make up that time by offering you the opportunity to visit other clubs (including online clubs) to make up your attendance. Try breakfast at the Blue Canyon on Wednesday mornings, 7:30 am at the Missoula Sunrise club. The food and fellowship is great. Or if you would rather not eat a lunch or breakfast then attend the Centennial club on 4:30 pm at the Ronald McDonald House on Mondays. They love visitors to come and enjoy their club and have good treats. Each group has speakers and you get to enjoy the dynamics of various clubs. Another way to make up your time is being on a committee that meets before or after work, attend an assembly or conference, or even go online. There are so many ways to make up attendance and we want our members to be active. For more information about makeups, see Tom Wilkins or Miranda Ming.

Just received a letter from David Cates of Missoula Medical Aid. He will be taking our grant money - about $17,500 - to Honduras during the first week of October to get their nutrition project started in conjunction with Save the Children Honduras. The program will take place in the communities of Chiligatoro and Pueblo Viejo, and will provide a meal and a snack each day for 183 children ages 0 to 6.
David said two education and nutrition professionals will manage the program and develop specific programs to keep track of the children's size and weight, develop early stimulation activities for the children, develop education campaigns for parents on the importance of balanced nutrition, supplement diets with iron, deworming medication and antibiotics as required, and promote breast feeding by mothers.
The program also includes technical help and seeds for the sowing and growing of vegetables in already-existing gardens in the two communities.
Said David: "I like that this program feeds kids, and I like that it teaches things that will live past the providing food part of the program."

Check out the Centennial club which meets 4:30-5:30 pm at the Ronald McDonald House on Mondays. The sunrise club meets Wednesday mornings at the Blue Canyon 7:15-8:30 am. When you attend these meetings you can count them as makeup for attendance.
